The line was built in 1929, electrified in 1967.
Before the construction of an automobile bridge across the river Neva near Lake Ladoga in 1982, the Petrokrepost station served the city of Shlisselburg on the other side of the Neva. While the Neva was not covered with ice, both cities were connected by a ferry every hour. The ferry goes now, only much less often.
